“Feeling guilty about wasting time on computer solitaire? Join the growing guilt-free multitude at FreeRice.com, an online game with redeeming social value.†- USA Today
I just discovered this wonderful website, FREERICE.COM . Click on an answer that best defines the word given, if you get it right, you get a harder word. If wrong, you get an easier word. For each word you get right, 20 grains of rice is donated.
Yes, I know, you may be wondering what this has to do with art, design, and home decor, however,
Jaime and I both believe that what we do is really bigger than us. We believe it is important to help those who need help, give to those who are in need, love those who need love. So please, take a few minutes and and click on the link above. You’ll be glad you did!
You may be wondering if the rice you donate makes a difference.
The rice you donate makes a huge difference to the person who receives it. According to the United Nations, about 25,000 people die each day from hunger or hunger-related causes, most of them children. To a mother or father watching a loved child die in their arms from hunger, the rice you donate is more precious than anything in the world.
In less than ten short minutes, I not only exercised my brain and improved my vocabulary, but I was able to donate 500 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program. There are 55 levels in all, however, according to their site, it is rare for people to get about level 48.
My level was 30. What level did you get to?

So glad you posted about this site–was on it last week and played for ages–it’s fun and for a great cause. (Aimed for level 45, made it to 43 . . .)

I have seen that website before, but enjoyed exercising my brain again this morning. As a former high school English teacher, I enjoy vocabulary word games like that one.

this is glamorous, wow 43! Ok, I’m gonna spend some more time on it and make it in the 40’s for sure. I love this game!
Jen, you’re right, though I want to donate all the rice I can, I have to be sure not to get lost in the game. Thanks for the tag, how exciting:)
Emilly, I’m so glad you came to my blog and our website. Thanks so much for taking the time. Glad you enjoyed it.
Julie, I am now regretting posting my level after learning that their are teachers out there reading my level. Don’t worry, I wasn’t on it for long, but plan on going back and improving!
violetlady, I am so excited about my subscription. Thanks so much for the comment, again:)

Corine, I hope you had fun playing the game. Isn’t a great thing to know that your not really waisting time on a computer game, but rather making sure you are helping others while hopefully gaining some smarts along the way:)
Karen, thanks for letting others know a/b the FREE rice!

Hello Melissa–I looked for your e-mail, but couldn’t find it, so I’m leaving this message in your archives . . . just wanted to say thanks for being the first to comment on yesterday’s original post–despite my changing my mind and exchanging it for another one . . . {I tend to do that quite often–a sign of perfectionist tendencies, I’m told?} :)
