Oprah’s Guest House Stripes!

by Melissa Lewis on March 26, 2008

Breakfast nook
I just adore the subtle painted stripes painted by Colorado artist Paul K. Smith in Oprah Winfrey’s guest house. The colors he choose are a perfect combination.

The stripes, which normally cause a room to feel more formal, are more whimsical because of the softness of the lines and color.

And check out that hutch in the middle. Gorgeous! I’m ready to head off to the studio and grab a brush and paint.

What do you think of these stripes?

Beautiful! At first glance, I thought it was wallpaper — love the way it looks — gives the place a bit of country charm, and yet also looks elegant.

Thank you for the truly sweet comment over at my blog! I’m thrilled to have now discovered your blog as well :-) I really like this painted wall, looks like wall paper, but so much more beautiful at a second glance!

I love her entire guest house. If she ever invited me to visit, I’d never leave! -Julia :-)

My husband painted stripes in my girls’ rooms about 15 years ago, it was quite tedious but it looked great! I love stripes!

Happy day!

Painted stripes look great! Oh the many uses for masking tape! :-) - is it called masking tape??? You know anyway - that cream browny paper type tape for painting straight lines :-)

I’m in agreement with you ladies, the stripes are beautiful and make the room! They also have a whitewashed feel to them which adds to that country feel…love it !!

All Things Bright and Beautiful, you are right about the tape, however they have a special “painters tape” that’s a little more delicate so as not to pull off the sheetrock:)

Red River Interiors, thanks for joining us over here. I definitely love the softness of these particular stripes as well. They are country, but not too country!
