See Your Room In A New Color

If you are like me, you love color in your home, but may have a hard time settling with just one color. Too many questions and uncertainties still remain just by looking at a paint chip. Most paint companies offer paint samples in small containers for around $5 to $10.00. Though this does allow you to paint portions of the wall to give you an idea of what it would look like, by the time you buy 3 or 4, you have already spent almost what a whole gallon of paint would cost. But even then it can be a little overwhelming by the time you get a few different colors on the wall. I’m a visual person, so I like to know what it would look like all over.

Now, many companies offer a way for you to digitally see what your WHOLE ROOM would look like with one color. Better still, you don’t even have to leave the house.

Benjamin Moore Paints (an Off The Wall favorite) has two easy options. You can pick one of their sample rooms and select a color you would like to try in your home. In addition, you can see what this color would look like in a speciality faux finish, such as color washing, strie or ragging. Or for $10.00, you can purchase their Personal Color Viewer software to use your own photos.

With this software you can :

  • Save up to 4 custom color combinations for easy comparison
  • Print before and after presentations
  • Email your ideas
  • Utilize their specialty finishes option

Behr Paints also offers these same options, of course using their own line of paint colors. You may view a sample photo of the color of your choice for free. Or, for only $4.95 you can subscribe for a year of viewing colors of your personal digital photos of your home.

If you don’t paint often, you may opt to utilize their sample photos. However, for you professional designer and decorators, subscribing to Behr’s Color Smart program or purchasing Benjamin Moore’s Personal Color Viewer may be an easy and better yet, economical way to go!

Also, one thing is to consider the W or C - meaning the Warm or Cool Color that that paint is, South facing can take a Cool Color to add a hip factor while a North facing might need some warmth to take out the chill and bring light. One must consider the room and the time of day you spend the most time there. I love how color changes with light or lighting. Also all paints go 10 to 15 % deeper than the swatch.

Thanks for adding those wonderful tips Patricia. You are so right, all of those definitely need to be considered when picking a paint color.

Love the idea of having software to use with your own photos to get a real idea of what the room will look like. Great tips!
