A couple of weeks ago I promised pictures of the garage doors and shutters we were working on. I am currently working on getting pictures, so until I do I thought I would show you a few we have done in the past.
This is one of our most popular and requested finishes on shutters and garages. It gives the home a modern yet rustic look. It’s that little attention to detail that goes a long way!
One reason faux finishing your shutters and garage doors is a great idea is the money you save. A real wooden garage door can be a bit on the pricey side. Not to mention you would have to seal it every six months or so. With a metal garage door, there is almost no need to even worry about taking care of it, other than occasionally rinsing the dirt off it.
Or, be bold and go with some BOLD COLOR! What a great way for your home to stand out from all the rest and represent your personal style.
What do you think? Like the color, or is it better to go more natural?

Donna, Thank you so very much for the prayer. It still amazes me how powerful prayer is, so I really, really appreciate all the prayers we can get:)
Artist, yeah this becomes a little monotonous, but the end result makes it all worth it.

Can you come to Chicago? Wow!!! Love love love! And the funny thing is I have an old wooden garage door that just broke last week. We really need a new one but I don’t like any of the choices. So for now I just opted to fix it but it just a matter of time till we have to replace it. I will obviously have to switch to medal but I like the look of my wood door. Ok.. sorry to give you all the details :)
PS- I love the color esp. with the white it is so pretty!

FYI - Jaime and I would love to come to Houston and/or Chicago ANYTIME! I’ve never been to either.
Patricia, it does feel old world doesn’t it. You should see the insides of these homes:)

Obviously the happiest garages around.

Looks great, Melissa. I love all of those doors. I’ve done a faux wood door at my old house & it turned out pretty good, but never done anything as big as a garage door. I think I like the lighter colored one the best. And I think those sorts of doors only look good on the bigger European style homes.

I never would’ve thought to do this! What a great idea to make a metal garage door look like wood. You are so talented! -Julia

Rhoda, I would have to agree. You definitely must consider the rest of the exterior of your home before painting a garage door in this style.

Wow, what an amazing project. The finish in the picture looks real and beautiful. I think that I am for the traditional darker wood color. Just a quick question or two, what do you do to preserve the finish from harsh weather? Do the doors need to be re-finished every few years? I am impressed. Fabulous work. ;)

LOVE THE COLOR!!! You are amazing and I can truly see your passion and heart in everything you do!
Melissa Lewis 05.19.08 at 8:26 pm
Emily, actually because these doors are metal, the upkeep is very minimal. We have a sealer in our glaze already, so it should hold up rather well. Of course, anything outside will be a little weathered with time.

Mind Your Manors, thank you so much for the lovely comment, and welcome to our blog!

OMG I love that faux finish - the house is awesome as well. I always loved that exterior style - but what about the interior?

Wow!! Those are fabulous…and I adore the brown, natural color on the first set of doors and shutters. I’d totally hire you (if I only had a house…or a garage!) LOL!!
