Part 2 - Eclectic Cottage Kitchen

Here is Part 2 of our Eclectic Cottage Home. Jaime and I had so much fun doing this kitchen. Actually, the whole house was a blast because the style of the home owner is right up our ally!

The home owner opted out of upper cabinetry and decided to put bead board on the upper portion of the wall for that ultimate cottage style. We add a simple distressed look and finished with a glaze over the soft gray/white paint.

An instant way to add cottage style in your kitchen is to set the island apart by making it a separate piece of furniture. Installing a different piece of granite and choosing a different color is a great way to achieve this. Here, we did a transparent gray/blue finish.

Here is an overview of the whole kitchen. The lighting in this room is great, unfortunately it didn’t allow for a great photograph. You still get an idea of the overall look. The client plans to add hardware to the drawers & doors and sconces on both sides of the window in the near future.

Oh, I love that kitchen. It’s so open and I would love to have a big island like that. It’s very much ME!

I am so close you could come finish my unfinished cabinet doors and find me a light fixture and find granite at a laminate cost since we made a media room and I don’t have any more money for granite…. I don’t know, the hunt for bargains and a fixture that will work are most of the fun, isn’t it?

I have a big island that seats 6. When we were looking for homes all the kitchens are so chopped up and tiny. I have 5 kids and others over often so really wanted a large kitchen. God is so good and my kitchen is open to the family room and my kitchen table seats 8 and 6 at the bar. Love it and can’t wait till we are through with the remodeling. Love the island a different color- I suggested that when we started painting the cabinets to blank look from husband. I may have to beat him up with a paint roller.

I adore that kitchen! It’s modern but so cozy and homey…I love that the island is a different color than the cabinets; great job :)

I especially love the island in that kitchen. Looks like it has many storage space and big enough for the cook to move around and do his/her stuff. It is also great that it has a big enough window to allow natural light and air to come in this wonderfully designed kitchen.

I love it. We painted our island and it has a butcher block top. It definitely gave the kitchen some much needed pizazz.

I wish you could come work your magic at my house.

I like it - modest and comforting. I think this could work in many houses - thanks for sharing!

The transparent gray/blue finish is wonderful! Love this kitchen–the bead board instead of upper cabinetry is a great alternative.

this is gorgeous! I love the fact that there is no upper cabinetry on either side of the kitchen window. I’m loving this trend of not having upper cabinets cover EVERY surface of wall space (if there at all). You ladies did a beautiful job. Me next, please!!!

your work makes that cottage all the more special, and takes it up a notch to what I call “Manor” To the Manor Born” Tally ho, love to cook in that glorious kitchen!

I love the look of this kitchen. I really like the idea of mixing cabinetry finishes as opposed to having all the cabinets the exact same color.

I’ve seen some really beautiful kitchens that make use of this idea.

Beautiful space!
