French Country Doors and Shutters

Jaime and I took some before and after pictures for your visual viewing of this French Country style house. We did a light faux on the shutters and doors of this home. The original color was a light blue and the client wanted a subtle antiquing.

Need a Tuscan Getaway?

Sometimes you just need a space in your home that’s your very own retreat. What better place for that than your bathroom. Here is a bathroom that Jaime and I did for a client who want that Old World Tuscan Feel.

I don’t think there was a space in this bathroom that went untouched.

We added texture to the columns and fauxed them to look thousands of years olds.

IMG_3556.JPG
We even gave the tub surround & armoire an Italian feel by painting it a metallic gold and finishing off the look by antiquing.

IMG_3564.JPG
And, even though the pictures didn’t turn out well, no detail was left behind. We added clouds to the sky blue ceiling to finish it off.

What Do You See In The Daily?

IMG_3405.JPG

Whew! There’s no better word I can think of to describe the week so far. It’s been fun of course, but whew, it’s been busy.

Our project of the week is a media room. We are painting all the wall space a faux leather & antiquing all the wood work. I can’t wait to have pictures for you! For finished pictures of other faux walls and cabinets, click here.

In the midst of busyness, Jaime and I encourage each other to see the positive in it all. Check out the picture below. I had my rag all folded up for using on the wall. I unfolded it to re-fold for a clean part (you faux-er’s no what I mean) and look at what I saw. I couldn’t make this happen if I tried to! It was a nice way to get us to smile and laugh.

IMG_3409.JPG
Isn’t that just too cool? I must admit, I’m surprised I even caught this. We were so busy, working so fast, I never stop to look at things outside of the zone I am in. I’m glad a slowed down for a second to catch it!
Next Week:
  • Exclusive interview with artist Kim Parker!
  • Merry Marketplace is just around the corner. Jaime and I are revamping our studio to get ready for some major frame making. I’ll be sure to take pictures along the way for all you visual people!

Part 2 - Eclectic Cottage Kitchen

Here is Part 2 of our Eclectic Cottage Home. Jaime and I had so much fun doing this kitchen. Actually, the whole house was a blast because the style of the home owner is right up our ally!

The home owner opted out of upper cabinetry and decided to put bead board on the upper portion of the wall for that ultimate cottage style. We add a simple distressed look and finished with a glaze over the soft gray/white paint.

IMG_3057.JPG

An instant way to add cottage style in your kitchen is to set the island apart by making it a separate piece of furniture. Installing a different piece of granite and choosing a different color is a great way to achieve this. Here, we did a transparent gray/blue finish.

Here is an overview of the whole kitchen. The lighting in this room is great, unfortunately it didn’t allow for a great photograph. You still get an idea of the overall look. The client plans to add hardware to the drawers & doors and sconces on both sides of the window in the near future.

Part I - Eclectic Cottage Family Room

We’ve shown you this mantel before, but now we can show you the whole room!

We did these walls for our client to give the room a warmer feel in the home. Her house is somewhat of an eclectic cottage style. This room was painted a cream and need a little boost, so we added a bruised faux effect on the walls.

As you can see, the adjoining walls are painted a dark brown, so the glaze on the walls helps to unify the open floor plan!

What do you think? Do you like the walls? Part II of this house is coming up this week, we’ll show you the kitchen cabinets and island!

Classic French County Kitchen

One of our most requested finishes from our clients is our Antique White Cabinets. A theme we see often is the French Country Kitchen. It’s a classic style, inspired by the natural environment of the French countryside.

French Country style incorporates the rustic character of old french farmhouses and country homes. Jaime and I incorporated this look by distressing the white cabinets and giving them an antique look with our own glaze.

A second aspect in this design is the furniture. Large, oversized furniture is key. And also important, it needs to look as if it has been passed down from generation to generation, like an old french heirloom. For this, we set the oversized island apart by creating heavily distressed, stained wood look. We added layers and layers of glaze to “smoke it up” a bit in areas where the wood would naturally have wear and tear.

Color is essential as well when decorating French Country. When picking colors, keep in mind the natural elements you would see along the french countryside… fields of lavender, blue skies, green grass, yellow sun and sunflowers. Our client chose a soft buttery yellow for her walls. This is a good choice if you want to have color that is still somewhat neutral.

To finish it off, we brought a French blue into the adjacent room by painting the stark white fireplace mantel. The carved wood on this piece was already beautiful. By adding color and a faux finish, this detail stands out even more.

Does Your Garage Feel A Little Left Out?

A couple of weeks ago I promised pictures of the garage doors and shutters we were working on. I am currently working on getting pictures, so until I do I thought I would show you a few we have done in the past.

DSC05833.jpg
This is one of our most popular and requested finishes on shutters and garages. It gives the home a modern yet rustic look. It’s that little attention to detail that goes a long way!
One reason faux finishing your shutters and garage doors is a great idea is the money you save. A real wooden garage door can be a bit on the pricey side. Not to mention you would have to seal it every six months or so. With a metal garage door, there is almost no need to even worry about taking care of it, other than occasionally rinsing the dirt off it.

Or, be bold and go with some BOLD COLOR! What a great way for your home to stand out from all the rest and represent your personal style.

What do you think? Like the color, or is it better to go more natural?

See Your Room In A New Color

Picture 4.png Picture 5.png

If you are like me, you love color in your home, but may have a hard time settling with just one color. Too many questions and uncertainties still remain just by looking at a paint chip. Most paint companies offer paint samples in small containers for around $5 to $10.00. Though this does allow you to paint portions of the wall to give you an idea of what it would look like, by the time you buy 3 or 4, you have already spent almost what a whole gallon of paint would cost. But even then it can be a little overwhelming by the time you get a few different colors on the wall. I’m a visual person, so I like to know what it would look like all over.

Now, many companies offer a way for you to digitally see what your WHOLE ROOM would look like with one color. Better still, you don’t even have to leave the house.

Do Your Shutters Need A Little Attention?

IMG_2109.JPGLast week we gave you a sneak peek on one of the jobs we were working on for our clients, Stacy and Jeff. I must say, this was a fun one!!! We had the privilege of dressing up the nursery walls for the couples soon-to-be little girl along with giving their shutters a little umph! The house looked just fine before, but as you can see, a little attention to detail really can make your home stand out from all the others.
